THE GATHERING STORM
Now began an uncertain but exciting period in my life – though at first it hardly seemed so. Weeks passed, months passed, and the blank seasons flew by life seemed to me altogether less interesting. Gone was the nervous anticipation at the thought of what new discoveries the day might bring; gone were the thrilling night-time adventures to strange places; and gone was the rush of excitement that came each time Price took my hand, looked into my eyes or whispered to me to follow him. And though I tried to forget, my every attempt was met with failure that was fraught with frustration – at him and, increasingly, myself.
